BFF's

Olivia goes to play at an in-home day care twice a week. The 2 other girls there are ages 7 and 5. Olivia learns A LOT from her older, "more mature," friends. She is constantly telling me what Mia (5) says or what Inaya (7) did. This morning she looked up from her water colors and said "Mommy, do you know what BFF means?" I said, "Yes, but what do you think it means?" She said "It means you're best friends!" I smiled and said, "Who told you that?" She said "Mia and Inaya!" I should have known! She learns EVERYTHING from Mia and Inaya.

** I apologize for the camera phone picture. It's bad, but it was the best I could do at the BFF moment!

***For those that may not know, "BFF" stands for Best Friends Forever!

New Addition to Shimmer Sister

New item on Shimmer Sister!

My Baby Loves Green Beans

I made baby food about a month ago. In the past I have been a Gerber mom all the way, but I have read several articles and blogs about making baby food and it seemed easy. It was. So, I made green beans, carrots, and spinach. As I mentioned in my last post, she had avocado last night and it went fairly well. This morning I have her apple sauce. She made a squinty face at first and then ate about 1/3 of the dish. I thought she would like the applesauce more than she did. To my surprise, this afternoon she at 2 full cubes (I made my food using ice trays) of green beans. She couldn't get enough. She kept opening her mouth and panting for more. It was really cute. I really need to charge my camera battery so I can post some pictures! I will add that one to my list!

***I made the donation to the Lily Soo adoption fund. Thank you to everyone who commented, posted my button on your blog or sent me a note!***

I Really Have Not Given Up...

I have not given up on blogging. I just misplaced my camera battery charger and have not taken pictures for days. And...we made a quick decision to put our house on the market and have been busy, busy, busy trying to get it in tip top shape. We always said that we would stay in this house for as long as possible, but we got my mom's house on the market and decided after debating for about 24 hours...why not? We are really just experimenting to see what happens. If it doesn't sell, then we will happily take it off the market and stay. We love it here. We came home here after our wedding. We brought our babies home to this house. We have had so many good times here and have so many wonderful memories. There is plenty of time to make more memories here, but we also love home and garden and have worked on this house for 6 years. We figured we could take on a new project (God willing) and maybe be able to stay in it forever! Who knows? We will see!

On another note, Amanda had her 6 month check-up today. She is in the 90th percentile for height! Who would have guessed it? Olivia has never gotten above the 20th percentile for height, ever! Back to A, she is in the 25th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for her head circumference. (Small head-I am used to Liv's 95th percentile topper!) The doctor told me to start her on baby food. I made baby food a few weeks ago, but decided to give her some avocado for her first food. She loved it. I wish that I had pictures to share.

Forgive my lack of posts, I have been busy, but am going to try to update more often!

A Great Way to Help a Deserving Family

I am a follower of a blog called Another Ordinary Miracle. Though I have never met Adrienne, Jim, or their adorable son, Owen, I have found myself rooting for them, praying for them, and feeling their pain over the past 1+ years. They are currently in the process of trying to bring home a sweet baby girl from South Korea, Lily Soo. I want to help them in any way I can. I have attached the Lily Soo button to my blog and am ordering a button from Jen. Buttons are only $5 and all the money will go to the Bring Lily Home Fund! If you don't have a blog, you can still donate. Click on the link above to read about the journey to Lily Soo home. Then go to Jen's blog to order your button or donate! It's all for a GREAT family.

Avery Deli's Party

We went to Avery Deli's party on Saturday too! It was at Party Palace. That place is so much fun! The girls all got to dress up like princesses, have a fashion show, get nails and make-up done, have a tea party, and make a magic wand. Olivia had a great time!

Precious Girls

We have a day full of birthday parties and celebrations planned today. This morning we went to Avery Heiss's 3rd birthday party. It was a book party and so much fun. Amy (Avery's mom) is the ultimate party planner. The kids heard 2 stories, made bookmarks, played games and had cupcakes. The decorations were are all story book themed. Each child brought a book in lieu of gifts and Amy is donating them to the local women's shelter. Olivia had a great time and loves her friend Avery!

5 Years Ago Today...

5 years ago today, I married my best friend. I am so lucky that I can say those words and honestly mean them. The past 5 years have been full of ups and downs but have been the very best 5 years of my life.

Adam and I met casually about 8 years ago. We were both dating other people. We lived in the same apartment complex and our relationship consisted of a passing "hello" when checking the mail or running into one another in the parking lot. Two years later we seemed to be running into each other every few weeks (Thank You Klings!). Adam called me on a Wednesday morning for a Saturday evening date (following all "The Rules") and I accepted. We went out on that date and have hardly been apart since. We made a down payment on our house 6 weeks after our first date, were engaged 6 weeks after that and married almost 1 year to the day from that first date!

We have experienced great heartbreak and tremendous joy over the past 5 years. We lost a beloved dog, suffered infertility and miscarriage, lost jobs, and said goodbye to my grandpa Fink, and fought, nursed and eventually lost my mom to cancer. We have held hands through his little sister's countless surgeries and eventual loss of an eye and his dad's heart surgery just last week.

On September 8, 2005, we welcomed Olivia Jane into our world. She has been our light and brought us more happiness than we could have ever imagined. She is the perfect combination of her mom and dad. She is beautiful and smart and outgoing and witty! She has a special way of touching people and making them love her!

On January 27, 2009, we had Amanda Grace. We wanted her so badly. She will probably never understand how hard we tried for her. She is not even 6 months old and already has a smile that will melt your heart and light up a room. She loves to cuddle and coo and has the sweetest temperament. She is wonderful and gorgeous and the "perfect" answer to our prayers.

Adam and I have laughed until our sides hurt. We have taken fun vacations and spent time with our many wonderful friends. We have long conversations about everything and nothing. We embrace our differences and respect each other's point of view. Though we don't always see eye to eye, we understand one another.

When I was a little girl I dreamed about my wedding day. I played wedding with my Barbies, my dog married the neighbors dog in a lavish backyard ceremony, and I pretended to walk the aisle with tulip bouquets a time or two. As I got older, I fought to catch a "real" bouquet at friends wedding (okay, so maybe I tried to catch more than just one!) and bought Bride magazine to look at rings and princess dresses. 5 years ago today, just as the doors were opening to the wedding of my dreams and my dad was about to walk me down the aisle in my pretty white dress, I looked at him and said "I have dreamed of this moment all my life and now it's here!" It was. It has been. I trust that it always will be.

I realize now that being married is much, much more than diamonds and pretty white dresses. Being married to Adam is give and take, good and bad, happy and sad, and the best decision I ever made.

Pool Time with Hailey and Hunter

I am so behind on posting pictures, but these are some photos of Liv and our neighbors, Hailey and Hunter (they are adorable 2 year old twins), at the pool. It is impossible to get 3 kids to look at the camera at the same time!

Note: I am not denying Olivia a hair cut. We are trying to grow her bangs out. The clips and bobby pins only stay in for so long.

Amanda was there catching some shade too!

***Adding a new item to Shimmer Sister today too! Check it out! ***

Tuesday

There is no real title for this post. I haven't downloaded any new pictures. We are back from Houston and Adam's dad is doing well so far. Thank you again for all of your prayers. I have been working on getting my house back in order after our whirlwind packing and leaving etc...I have also had several orders from Shimmer Sister to complete. Thank you again to everyone who has ordered or referred a friend. I absolutely love the business! I will have some new things to add soon!

I am off to continue my Jonas Brothers marathon on Disney with Olivia, Reagan, and Amanda. I hate to admit it, but I like these Disney shows with Jo Bros, Hannah Montana, and Zack and Cody!

Emergency Trip

On Wednesday, we found out that Adam's dad had to have emergency open heart surgery. We packed up quickly, dropped Amanda with Aunt Sissy, and headed to Houston. The surgery was yesterday and it went well. We are still waiting for Michael to breath on his own, but he is getting there. Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes!

Amanda Bounces!

Amanda loves her bouncer toy. I tried it a few months ago and she wasn't quite tall enough, but now...her feet touch the ground and she loves it!

Independence Day

We started our holiday weekend with a visit from Aunt Karen (Karenina) and Uncle Locke. Olivia loves my Aunt Karen. She is an artist and teaches Olivia how to draw and paint. I think Olivia may take after Karen. She loves art and is so imaginative and creative! We always look forward to her visits.

And this is my mom's youngest brother, Locke. He stayed the night on Thursday night and Olivia couldn't wait for him to wake up on Friday so she could play with him and tell him jokes.
Amanda gave him some smiles and some spit-up!

Olivia helped me bake July 4th cake that turned into impromptu cake balls since my oven is on the fritz.
We had to make our own blue sprinkles since they were sold out at H-E-B. Olivia was helping me stir them and I turned my back on her for just a second. When I turned back around, I asked her if she had taste tested the blue sprinkles. She gave me a "look." I told her that I had evidence!
Getting ready for the park. It was hot! Daddy stayed home with Amanda so she wouldn't get too hot.

Elissa and I took the girls to the park in Georgetown for the petting zoo, face painting (or arm tatoo painting for my rebel child!), and some 4th of July cheer!

We spent the late afternoon and evening hanging with Elissa, Reagan, Stacey, Brett, and the McAdoo's! The girls did sparklers with daddy supervision once it got dark. We had hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, and watermelon. The traditional summer staples! Yum!

Happy Summer!

Fair?

Adam offered to get up with Amanda last night for all of her "middle of the night" feedings. We agreed when she was born that I would get up with her since I was staying home and he had to get up for work each day. It has been 5 months and I am tired. So, last night was his night. We got in bed around 9:30p.m. and he gave her a bottle. (She usually takes a bottle between 9:30 and 10p.m. and then again between 12:30 and 1:30 a.m. and again around 4:30 a.m.) Guess when she woke up for her next feeding? 6:35 a.m. Does this seem fair? I am wondering what magic potion he put in that 9:30 p.m. bottle? To all you mom's out there...this is about par for the course, right?!?
